Graduation Requirements

River Oaks School offers two distinct diplomas to our students: The River Oaks Diploma, which follows the Louisiana Core 4 Curriculum, and the River Oaks Honors Diploma, which requires students to take a more advanced course of study.

Standard River Oaks Diploma Requirements

  • English - 4 Units
  • Mathematics - 4 Units
  • Science - 4 Units
  • Social Studies - 4 Units
  • Physical Education - 2 Units (½ must be Health)
  • Foreign Language - 2 Sequential Units
  • Art - 1 Unit

River Oaks Honors Diploma Requirements

  • All of the above courses for the Standard River Oaks Diploma
  • At least six courses must be Honors level or higher.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0

Advanced Placement Offerings

As the most rigorous course offerings at River Oaks School, Advanced Placement classes are designed to meet the needs of students who wish to be truly competitive when applying for scholarships and who wish to start their time at a university with several hours of credit on their transcript.

The following courses are offered as Advanced Placement courses:

English:

  • AP English Language and Composition
  • AP English Literature and Composition

Social Studies:

  • AP United States History
  • AP European History

Arts:

  • AP Art History

As River Oaks School seeks to build up the rigor of its curriculum, new AP courses will be added on a yearly basis.

Honors Courses

These courses are of a higher degree of difficulty than a standard class, and they demand that students rise to the challenge through the completion of additional enrichment assignments that encourage student learning and work ethic.

The following courses are offered at the Honors level:

  • English: I-IV
  • Mathematics: Pre-Calculus; College Algebra and Statistics
  • Science: Biology I-II, Chemistry, Physical Science

Dual Enrollment

Dual Enrollment is an excellent option for students who wish to attend a public Louisiana university to earn college credit. At River Oaks School, we partner with the University of Louisiana at Monroe, our local university, to offer some of the finest courses a high school student can take.

In partnership with the University of Louisiana at Monroe, the following courses are offered for Dual Enrollment credit:

  • English IV
  • College Algebra and Statistics
  • Music Enjoyment
  • Art Applications
  • Psychology
  • Western Civilization

These offerings are subject to change on a yearly basis, as the agreement between River Oaks School and ULM is negotiated each year.
